At Rebel Lion Advertising, we’re passionate about providing a new, alternative route into the industry. Staying true to our ethos of being ‘Designed to Do Things Differently’, earlier this year we launched The Resistance Academy, the first and only of its kind in Wales. The programme offers budding creatives the opportunity to work on a live brief for a national brand and gives participants the opportunity to sample every aspect of agency life – from media buying, planning, and audience research to creative strategy, pitching, and presenting to a client.
The inaugural cohort of six students, in partnership with the University of South Wales’s BA Advertising degree, completed the pilot programme in late January. The week-long experience saw them work on a brief to commemorate Cardiff City Football Club‘s 125th Anniversary and culminated in a face-to-face pitch to the client at Cardiff City Stadium. The results were remarkable, with James Askey, Head of CRM, Marketing & Insights at Cardiff City commending the exceptional quality of work, strategy and presentation, acknowledging their commendable efforts.

Opportunity Like No Other
Aside from providing an invaluable insight into the industry, The Resistance Academy is also a registered AQA Training Centre, meaning all students who successfully complete the programme are awarded an AQA Level 3 Principles of Marketing and Advertising Unit Award. Not only that, but those who distinguish themselves will secure full-time positions within the Rebel Lion pride upon completion of their final year at university, demonstrating our commitment to nurturing and empowering the next generation of creative talent in Wales.
